Pez Visitor Center Orange Connecticut
Me, chillaxing in the upstairs lounge of the Pez Visitor Center in Orange, Connecticut

A few weeks ago I had the chance the tour the Pez Candy Visitor Center in Orange, Connecticut. I had no idea that the candy was made right here in my home state until I saw it on the list of properties that would be open and made available to the public during the Connecticut Open House.

The factory/visitor center is tucked away in a suburban neighborhood right off of Interstate 91.During my visit, I learned that PEZ was first invented by Edward Haas III in Vienna, Austria. The name PEZ was derived from the German word for peppermint… PfeffErminZ. In 1952, PEZ-Haas, Inc. established a subsidiary in New York City. That same year, they also applied for a patent for what would become their world famous and collectible dispensers. In 1974, the company relocated and settled in Orange, Connecticut.

Along with some fun gadgets (i.e. the Pez filled chopper) visitors are treated to what has to be the world’s largest collection of Pez dispensers. Visitors also get to see how the little candies are made from start to finish.

How to Dress For A Day Trip

I always thought that sneakers should only be worn when you are exercising or running. However, the selection of sneakers that are available on the market are a little more “cute” and a little less “utility” making them the right choice for daytrippers. There is nothing like tired, sore feet to suck the life out of a promising, fun-filled day so, if it’s not sneakers, please choose your shoes wisely. I also, recommend lose, dark clothing which keeps you comfortable or can hide any O_o’s that might happen while you are far away from home.  Also a day trip is not the time to drag around your every day purse. My everyday purse is a shoulder bag that has my entire life and the weight of it, in it.  A lightly packed (with the essentials) cross-body bag is your best option because a) it’s light; and b) it allows you to be hands free.

    • Thanks Donna. I’ve been trying to escape Connecticut for the longest because I thought there was nothing to do here. There aren’t a lot of big city type activities, but I am actually enjoying discovering all that there is.

  2. You sure rocked those high tops!
Seriously, you looked great and I’m so glad you enjoyed the PEZ factory!
The blue top looks great on you, and, of course, I’m loving that lipstick.
You’ve inspired me to wear some myself. So far, only two days. But that’s more than I’ve worn it in the last 20 years combined!

    • Hi Bonnie. Thank you (-: I wasn’t a lipstick wearer myself. I found that the trick in wearing lipstick during the day is to wear a lip stain. They don’t require a lot or re-application, it didn’t end up on my chin or my teeth either. Actually as far as summer makeup is concerned, I personally endorse and suggest lipstick and a bold brow.

  3. “The likkle chile soh cute” . . . I love your look and that great smile could charm a Count!

  4. You look so glamorous in your pictures at the Pez factory. It looks like you had a really fun time. I always wondered where they got the Pez name. The sneakers and alfit are adorable. Fun post!

    • Thanks Sheri. It’s funny, I don’t even think they have the mint flavored ones anymore. At least, I didn’t see any or get a sample on (which we got tons of) when I was there.

  5. We have a candy factory in Denver, though I don’t remember the name of it. I took the kids once and it was so much fun! They loved it! This looks like a good one not to be missed for sure and I love your sneakers!

    • Thanks Robin. It was quite interesting to see the process. It took them literally minutes to turn powdered sugar and into those little hard candies. This was my first time trying a Pez by the way and they are really good.
