This is another post dedicated to my readers who are raising a teenage daughter or two. School is back in session, so you know what that means. It’s fork over your credit card to your daughter season again. This time the main event, Homecoming!
For my international readers, Homecoming is an annual tradition here in the the United States when high schools and colleges come together, (usually in the Fall), to welcome back their alumni. The event is usually built around a game, usually football (American football, that is) and is usually followed by a semi-formal dance which requires the purchase of a “cute” dress and heels.
What to Wear for Homecoming
Earlier this year, I shared tips on how to help your daughter shop for a prom dress for her particular body type. This time I am going to show you five styles to help you and your daughter narrow your choice of homecoming dresses. By the way, all of Homecoming dresses shown here are available on DressFirst.com.
Boho Glam. I think this navy, pleated one shoulder dress is perfect for the gal who takes her style inspiration from stars like Sienna Miller, Nicole Richie and the Olsen twins. By the way, I’m not sure why people still associate this style with “earthy” “ecclecctic” “hippie” chicks. “Earthy” doesn’t exactly come to mind when I think of those stars. This style of dress is characterized by a looser, flowy, usually long dress. This one is short, but this is still “boho” to me. To take the boho style even further, I would add some kind of head accessory like a flower crown (kind of like this) and wedge shoes.
Modest Glam. This purple sheath scoop neck knee-length chiffon cocktail dress is a great style for all the chicks who for personal, religious or super strict parents reasons, can’t show up “high school sexy” or show skin at the big dance. Because you are modest, it doesn’t mean that you have to don a potato sack or look frumpy or boring either. Modest Glam (I totally made that up) is the way that you want to go. This dress offers ample coverage, but is still stylish and young.
Glam Rock. This glam rock styled A-Line/Princess Sweetheart Knee-Length Organza Satin Cocktail Dress With Beading dress is perfect for the chick who lives and breathes fashion. She is not afraid to make an entrance, knows how to take compliments and enjoys being the center of attraction.
Vintage Chic. This Sheath Off-the-Shoulder Knee-Length Chiffon Charmeuse Cocktail Dress With Ruffle’s is for the chick who knows every line from Breakfast at Tiffany’s, idolizes old Hollywood stars like Audrey Hepburn shops in vintage stores and goes out of their way to look “unique” and “different”.. in chic, stylish way of course. Trust me, there’s at least one girl in every high school in America like this.
Classic Glam. And then there are the girls who are more about the dance and not so much the style at the dance. You want to go for a chic, but elegant dress that is almost free of any, embellishments or “drama” (fashion drama, not perceived or actual) of any type. This A-Line/Princess Sweetheart Knee-Length Chiffon Homecoming Dress With Ruffle is a great choice. Pick one in a color (I chose a red one, because red is a “safe” starter color for girls and women who want to experiment with color.
Hopefully, you found these tips helpful. Happy shopping y’all!
