What I Wore: Houndstooth Coat and Other Clearance Finds

My Steve Madden, funnel-neck, belted flared winter white  coat was a bit impractical for the winter that we have been enduring here in the northeast so I had to make a new purchase.

I wanted to avoid adding another black coat to my closet and began my search for a bright citrus yellow statement coat.  That, however, proved to be a fruitless (pun intended) effort because none of them were reasonably priced.

I can’t even believe how lucky I was when I found this houndstooth patterned, faux-leather trimmed coat, IN MY SIZE last month on the clearance page of the Zara.com website.  The actual cost, plus shipping and handling was under $60.

Pretty much everything else I was wearing were also clearance finds from various retailers.

What I am Wearing:

Coat: Houndstooth Coat from Zara.com (sold out) Calvin Klein has similar patterned coats like this Houndstooth Wool-Blend Trench Coat and this Wool-Blend Faux-Leather Trim Coat both available at Macys. | Shoes: Lace up gray booties clearance find from Sole Society.com | Dress: bodycon dress H&M | Bag : Bowling bag from Asos.com | Hat: Souvenir hat from Tower of London | Necklace: Actual crucifix

  1. I absolutely love an oversize houndstooth print.
At the last Macy’s fashion event I attended there was one model who wore a houndstooth print shift dress. My absolute favorite look of the show!
My wardrobe consists of so much black, brown, and grey, that I also love to find bright separates to punch it up a notch. A citrus yellow coat might be a bit overpowering for me to pull off, but I would love to put that dash of color in a top or some type of accessory.

I always admire your bold choices and wish I could be as brave!

    • Thanks Bonnie. Actually, my closet had that same color scheme right up until I started blogging. I think my black, gray and navy era started back in ’93 when I landed a job working in the Investment Management Division of one of the local big insurance companies. We werent’ allowed to wear any other colors, not even on Fridays during dress down (black jeans, polo tops). As for my bold choices, they are not contrived (as in, I rarely ever walk into a retailer looking for a specific look. I usually gravitate to and buy what I like and can afford. (-:
