Five Ways To Invest In Yourself

IMG_0472

Yesterday I signed up to take a grammar and punctuation refresher course because I am still confused about when to use a semi-colon and I don’t have a clue still when I am supposed to use a dash. Today I registered for the Blogher conference in New York City because although my blog is almost 4 years old, I don’t think that I am so experienced that there is nothing left for me to learn. These things are not free and they are also not cheap, but I’m committed to my personal growth and I’ve found that investing in myself continues to be the most profitable investment of them all. With that said, what are you doing to invest in yourself?  If you are drawing a blank, here are 5 ways to invest in yourself.

1) Develop Your Skills

Register for a computer class, writing class or, a grammar and punctuation class to develop and improve your skills. You can also head to school to advance your education and or degree, or attend a workshop or conference to hone your skills in a subject that interests you.

2) Explore Other Cultures

Take your blinders off and try a new restaurant! Listen to a genre of music that you have never listened to before, travel, attend a cultural festival presented by people from a background that is other than yours. Participate don’t just stand on the sidelines and look.

3) Nurture Your Mind

Read a book (something other than a romance novel), visit a museum, sit through a lecture about a subject that you know nothing about, do a crossword puzzle or register at a brain training site like lumosity.com. Engage in discussions with someone who does not share you point of view and learn.

4) Nurture Your Body

Try organic foods for a week, replace your daily mug coffee for a cup of energizing and beneficial green smoothie. Sign up for a walking challenge like those available through sites like shapeup.com or any of the organizations that sponsor charitable walks; make time for rest and relaxation.

5) Improve Your Appearance

And no, this is not frivolous and self-indulgent. A good haircut and a great wardrobe does a lot to lift the spirit and confidence.
