Best Acne Spot Treatments For Adults

Acne Spot Treatments

When you have acne, you have to be ready at all times for battle. That is why I keep an arsenal of acne spot treatments that I reach into whenever the familiar itching, tenderness and raised skin surface makes its debut.

Please remember that I am not a doctor, nurse or esthetician. I would have a conversation with one of them before committing to a spot treatment. Please note that I purchased all of the products in the above photo and my recommendation is based on my personal experience. These products may not necessarily work for everyone. With the disclaimer firmly stated, here are my top 5 (ok, there are actually 6) acne spot treatments.

The first three products are all by Murad. This is the brand that is used at Massage Envy and I was honestly using it long before my membership there. As far as I know, this brand is available for sale at Ulta, Sephora and Massage Envy.

Murad’s Clarifying Mask

I’ve actually used this mask as a spot treatment. I don’t anymore, only because I found a sulfur based spot treatment that has more sulfur (10% vs 4% in Murad). More on that in a second, but if you already have this at home, bust that tube wide open and dab it on that problematic area.

Murad Acne & Wrinkle Reducer

This dual-function formula reduces acne while minimizing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. I have actually, on occasions used this on my face under my moisturizer as a preventative product, instead of just as an acne spot treatment.  It can be used during the day or night. It has 0.5% salicyclic acid which is honestly, not very effective on my stubborn zits. It might work for you though, so definitely keep this one on the list.

Murad Acne Spot Fast Fix

This is a 3.5 % benzoyl peroxide, fast-acting spot treatment that eliminates acne-causing bacteria to reduce breakouts quickly and effectively. I can use this at night and day and is kept in my makeup bag. This is honestly a fast and effective spot treatment for pimples (not whiteheads).

Retin-A Micro

This is a retinol treatment that you can only get by prescription from a dermatologist. It is really expensive and the cost is rarely covered by insurance (well, in my experience it wasn’t). It is probably one of the strongest topical treatments available. The people at Massage Envy will not touch me if they know I’ve as much smelled the product. They actually make me sign a waiver confirming that I have not used any retinol based products when I go in for my monthly facial. However, this is the only product that has actually worked on my cystic acne. Yep, I get those from time to time too.  I was lucky enough to find a dermatologist who gave me a barrel load of office samples and that tube is my last one. It’s being kept in a safe in an undisclosed location and will come back out again in an extreme acne emergency. {I’m not kidding!}

Kate Somerville Eradikate and Mario Badescu Drying Lotion

These two are my holy grail acne spot treatment products. I don’t even feel comfortable unless I know that there is a full bottle of one of them in my medicine cabinet. Kate Somerville is the one that I have available in my home at the moment. Both include calamine lotion and the Kate Somerville one has 10% sulfur and the Mario Badescu has salicyclic acid. They both eliminate whiteheads over night and prevent other blemishes from coming to the surface.

XoXo, Natasha
