After two weeks of using it, Vya Naturals turmeric face wash has replaced my old favorite and will now be my go to solution when I need a product that helps to clear hyperpigmentation. The brand was launched on Amazon.com earlier this year and within 3 months, two of their products – the turmeric face scrub and rose face scrub – were selected as “Amazon’s Choice” products. People that have sampled the products have given them a consistent high rating and for good reasons; and that is because the products work as claimed.
I am originally from Jamaica where turmeric is the star ingredient in our curries so this spice was not foreign to me. Its uses outside of the kitchen certainly were, however. The medicinal value of this spice has been long touted in India and has been used to treat ailments which include arthritis, heartburn, joint pain, stomach pain, Crohn’s disease and high cholesterol. I learned this while I was doing my two years with an Indian based multi-national several years go. I didn’t realize that you could also use it externally until I landed on YouTuber’s Farah Dhukai’s DIY turmeric and milk face mask. Turmeric is a natural anti-inflammatory and reduces redness and other skin irritations and I learned from Dhukai that it was one of the best natural solutions to clear skin.
Of course I tried Dhukai’s DIY mask at home! I was able to see improvements but the mess it created was a turn off. Turmeric turned everything it touched into gold. When I was traveling through the middle east earlier this year, I found turmeric soap and bought it with the hopes that it would be as effective as the DIY but of course without the mess. I honestly haven’t used the soap yet, mainly because it is one of the few things that I bought during my travels and it was elevated to souvenir. Anyways, I was pretty excited when I came across Vya Natural’s paraben-free, natural turmeric face wash and scrub. The reviews and customers vowing to become repeat users also influenced by decision to further explore this brand.
I’ve been using the face wash now for the last two weeks and I was impressed enough to add it to my list of 8 must have beauty products. The wash cleans skin, removes makeup clears pores and is perfect for all skin types, specially for oily (raises hand) & acne-prone skin. Because of it’s active ingredients (wild turmeric) the wash also help to reduce pigmentation from acne scars. It is also free of phthalates, parabens, sulphates, mineral oil and synthetic dyes.
DIRECTIONS: Apply a small amount of Turmeric Clarifying Creamy Face Wash to damp skin. Massage gently. Rinse with clean water and pat dry. Follow with toner, serum and moisturizer. For best results, remove make-up before use.
100ml/ 3.38 fl oz sells for $9.99 on Amazon.
The turmeric face scrub is sold as dry powder which can be mixed with rose water, or plain water for oily skin or with yogurt for dry to normal skin types to create a paste. I mixed mine with yogurt. I missed the note that using plain water for oily skin. Some people have also mixed their scrub with kefir (fermented milk that is like yogurt).
DIRECTIONS: Mix one tablespoon of the dry powder with rose water, water, kefir or yogurt to make a thick paste. Apply the paste as a mask and then scrubbed off as a gentle exfoliator after 10-12 minutes.
Because of the bright yellow color of the mix, I assumed that there would be staining. To my surprise however, my counter tops, finger nails and white wash cloth are still in tact despite the bright yellow color. I only used the scrub once so it’s hard to rate its effectiveness at this point. I am a big fan of the wash, however.
